Ladakh

Of close-knit communities and fragile ecosystem, eco-friendly homes, and ingenious innovations, there’s much more to Ladakh than just spectacular scenery and deep blue lakes. un[travel] Ladakh for its gompas and stupas, for walking to the turquoise Indus as it meets the muddy Zanskar and for its lovely silences that just don’t need to be filled. Spend a morning in prayer with monks at Thiksey or stay at a homestay in a village beside the Pangong Tso and come back with equally memorable photographs. Visit Ladakh responsibly to experience serenity and camaraderie in a vast cold barren desert, to understand the positive change towards sustainability, or just because seeing is believing.

Things to do

Village Hiking with locals - Hike from Man village to Merak with a local guide and experience life beside the Pangong River. Meet nomadic shepherds and understand their way of life in the cold desert.

Living museum experience at Hundurman - Abandoned village, antique lifestyle and ethnic architecture – all for you to experience with the comfort of a homestay near Kargil. To be guided by a native villager is the most authentic experience one can have.

Morning prayers at Thiksey - It's worth the early morning wake up call to see the hundreds of lamps being lit and the harmonious hymns of the monks at Thiksey. Truly spiritual experience and gives an insight into the lives of the monks here.

Amazing trip I must say. Me and my sister travelled to Leh Ladakh with untravel. The trip was coordinated properly, we did not get troubled anywhere. Hotels, transportation were arranged accordingly. Drivers were very polite and interactive. Local drivers were like guides explaining us about the place. and finally our coordinator from untravel was like a cherry on top, he took care of things smoothly, letting us know about the plan. He was very transparent about all the details. Overall it was one hell of a trip.

I just wanted to take a moment to share how much I enjoyed traveling with un[travel]. They have great people working to make traveling to the remotest locations of India like Spiti valley and Pin valley as painless and seamless as possible. The team is customer focused, cheerful and are always willing to help you find the best travel plans suited to your needs. Also, I felt really safe even though my mother and I were traveling alone. Can't thank you enough un[travel] for this unforgettable trip. Kudos to the team.

We truly had an experience of a lifetime and I would love to go back again. In all honesty, I'm still not over the exhilaration of the past couple of weeks and it's getting quite difficult coping back to my routine. Big shout out to untravel's entire team for giving us the attention consistently before, during and after the trip. We knew we were in good hands when your team, especially Atul would personally get in touch to ensure the trip was going well and would address any issues in no time.We are glad you have a great team in Leh as well without whom the travel experience would have been left incomplete. Believe me when I say, we all have been recommending un[travel] with a special mention of your team in Leh including Nurboo and Punchuk and even the hotel where we stayed. I'm intending on publishing a Travel blog and would like to make a mention of your team. In addition, I would be happy to share any footage I have on your social media. I'm taking some time to arrange them but it should be ready within a week. I shall get in touch with you in the coming days to get some idea on how would you like me to share this on digital media.Thank you un[travel]!

Ladakh was indeed a beautiful experience, which I believe has to be cherished time and over again. Considering the terrain and the adverse weather conditions untravel executed my plan well in terms of logistic support and accommodation. The local support, Nurboo in particular, was quick in his turnaround time and was very helpful. Keep up the good work and all the best.

Best time to visit June to September

Between late June and mid September, high snow-bound passes remain open and temperatures are pleasant enough for a couple of hours without a sweater.

Expect regular snowfall intervals by the end of October right through to March.Winters, however, are harsh with most places inaccessible thanks to abundant snow.
