Tanzania

Tanzania is a wonderful mix of the wildlife, volcanoes, beaches, picturesque landscapes, festivals and some exotic cuisine! If you are in for some adventure, and are fond of wildlife, at the same time wanting to holiday at a serene mountain top with greenery all around, and some good food, this should be the perfect place.
Tanzania is best known for the Serengeti National Park, which is one of the greatest wild sanctuaries of the world. From wildebeests, zebras to lions, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, and even rare birds, the range of wildlife population here is quite impressive. It's not just about the animals and birds, the view from the Nabi Hills, which is the main entrance of the Serengeti, is breathtaking.
Zanzibar or the spice island gives you ample scope for some rumination into the past along with a cool day off in the beaches. The Stone Town located here is a World Heritage Site. The architecture which dates back to the 19th century reflects the Swahili and Islamic influences. You also have some really good beaches to relax.

un[travelled] to Kenya

Team un[travel] designed an absolutely unforgettable trip to Kenya for us newly weds. Each and every detail was considered when they made the schedule. Kenya was definitely an offbeat destination. You guys managed it beautifully! Having seen Masai Mara on tv, we felt as if we were in one of Nat Geo's videos! A special thanks to Mayank from the team un[travel] and Douglas who was our guide there for all the support provided.

un[travelled] to Kenya

Had a super trip, starting with Titu Roy making all the arrangements and answering the innumerable questions. We stayed at the Sopa Lodges in Amboseli, Naivasha and Mara. These were lovely. We enjoyed the comfort and the service at all the lodges and especially the fantastic locations. Naivasha Sopa was the most luxurious and the grounds were awesome. We were right near the lake and the experience of seeing 30 to 40 Hippos grazing on the lawns at night is unforgettable. Mucheri our driver and guide were great. He was very informative and good fun. Many many thank to un[travel] and Safari trails for making our trip so memorable.

Best time to visit All Year Round

Tanzania is one of the best safari destinations in the world. The best wildlife viewing months in Tanzania are during the Dry season from January to March and June to September. The best chance of seeing the wildebeest migration in the Serengeti starts as early as July and can continue through November. See the unimpeded panoramic views of the great Migration of the wildebeests, zebras, gazelles and elands. Migration takes place throughout the year; there is no fixed table of events. All you want is to be in right place at right time.

The climate in Tanzania is tropical and coastal areas are hot and humid. There are two rainy seasons; from October to December, and from March to June. The southern and western circuit parks are best visited during the dry-season (June to October). Tanzania is an incredible bird watching destination in the winter months from October to April, when over 500 species of birds migrate to East Africa from Europe. Calving season usually occurs January to March in Tanzania's southern plains. It's also time to see the Big Fives and predators in action. Mount Kilimanjaro can be best scaled between the month of July and October or January to March. August and October is the best time to visit Tanzania's islands and beaches.

How to reach

Air

  • Tanzania is well served by international airlines.

  • Kilimanjaro International Airport and Julius Nyerere International Airport are the busiest international airports in Tanzania. If you plan to visit a number of parks and reserves, flights are the best bet.

  • There are plenty of companies offering services around Tanzania, most of these are small caravan planes.

Road

  • The infrastructure isn't that developed here. Almost all roads are in poor condition and unmarked.

  • Choose taxi, avoid self-driving.

  • A network of buses covers most intercity routes. Bus is one of the cheapest ways to travel around Tanzania.

Rail

  • The train is far less bumpy than the roads but you may find them very slow.

  • There are two train lines in Tanzania, the central line and the Tazara line. Look for game reserves.

  • Travel by local ferry.Boats leave about every hour from Dar es Salaam and head toward the islands of Zanzibar and Pemba.

  • Ferries also run on Lake Victoria, Lake Tanganyika, and Lake Nyasa. Towns and cities can be cheaply reached by dala-dalas, taxis, bicycles or tuk-tuks.
