Trip Summary

Beyond borders, bound by history, Vietnam and Cambodia are two countries that have withstood the test of time and humanity. With 3260 kilometres of coastline and diverse terrain from caves and forests to mountains and islands, Vietnam is that charming piece of Southeast Asia that everyone wants to visit, but seldom few have. Made famous as the backdrop to numerous Hollywood blockbusters, Ha Long Bay is that surreal seascape of nearly 1600 limestone islands and islets over 1500 sq kilometres. Spend the night cruising along the bay before you stop off at Hanoi for its endless stalls of street food and local delicacies. Head over to Hoi An, Vietnam's capital with its fascinating Old Quarter and charming lantern-lit streets. Look out for lively markets and open-air cafes in Hoi An before you end your Vietnamese sojourn in the ancient Ho Chi Minh City. Fascinating baroque and oriental architecture mark quaint streets in the city popularly called Saigon. Visit the Cu Chi tunnels used by the Vietcong, the war museum and more. Stop for a cup of that very interesting Vietnamese coffee blend before you end your day at the Starlight Bridge.
Jungles, waterfalls and a plethora of historical monuments, contemporary Cambodia is the successor state to the Khmer empire that ruled much of what is now Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. A nation with a rather gory history, this country is a testament to its people's unyielding spirit and unwavering optimism. A region dominated by and pagodas, Siem Reap blends the divinity of religion with the allure of Southeast Asian cuisine, history and more. Head out for some interesting street shopping and food in a land where every corner seems to tell a different story.
